Part 1: Chapter 8- 10 Weeks Left Of School- Mentor: "You Made It Through Your First Year Very Well"

Then April and May came rolling around. It was time to start preparing for Mother's Day and plan a Mother's Day Breakfast. Anxiety started running through my body all over again. I was told that I had to plan, order and buy the necessary items for a breakfast as a way to 'wow' the parents in my class. The idea was to bring them in, and be  the PR rep for the school to keep the children enrolled (well, I guess in some ways, teachers could be considered PR reps). However, the best part about planning Mother's Day activities was making bath salts with the class. The children worked together and mixed all of the ingredients for the bath salts. Second, they mixed  the colors all on their own. Finally  they chose a scent to make the bath salts smell pretty. (I thought it was so cute watching the boys in the class smell the lilac and rose scent. They made the cutest 'yucky' expressions' when they smelled the flower scents. The 3 scents that I chose were vanilla, rose and lilac.). I actually made bath salts with them twice because I had a lot of fun the first time around. I also knew that Carla would appreciate being involved the second time.

don't go crazy over it... make a nice little breakfast...let the kids sing a few song... and one of their movement songs which are all adorable...and if you want the parents can do soemthing with the kids...like make something...making paper flowers.....or perhaps really planting seeds in milk containers..which the kids then take care of and then take home..something fro spring and like earth day..

yes..i'd like to be there for the bath salts...my days are may 14 and 21...21 might be good..that day Sarah is coming ...so she'll see something really special...and she'd help   too..enjoy the weekend [SIC]

I ended up not planting seeds with the class because it would have been too much materials to bring into class. I never drove to school; I used to take the train. Also, when I found out about the bath salts idea, I thought the project would be FABULOUS with so many wonderful authentic learning experiences. I JUST KNEW that I had to take the opportunity to make bath salts with the class.
